Started in 2012, Kahn & Neek's Bandulu label stands out as a beacon in a saturated field of record labels. Cutting heavyweight grime music of Bristolian origin loud onto vinyl, packaging it in hand printed, screen printed sleeves and delivering to the public in limited quantities; it's as personal and as grass roots as it gets. And it might seem like an super over obvious thing to note but it really does fell like they're in it for the right reason. Kahn & Neek play dubplates. They love and respect the culture of vinyl and they love and respect the heritage of the music they make. Simply put they've managed to catch the ear of a hell of a lot of people, ourselves included, over the course of just a handful of records. (Fabric London)

Launched in 2012, Dub-Stuy is a sound system collective and record label hailing from Brooklyn, New York. They pull together different styles, traditions, and modes of production to catalyze interest in sound system culture, a movement with strong ties to America’s music history but often forgotten as time passed. Dub-Stuy traces a direct link between the roots of sound system culture in Jamaica and contemporary bass and electronic music. Focused around a custom-built 15 kilowatt system, Dub-Stuy powers a community and represents sound system culture for the 21st century.
Bandulu Records corner: KAHN & NEEK + COMMODO
KAHN & NEEK

Since first becoming friends as teenagers in the night clubs of their hometown of Bristol in the UK, Kahn + Neek have blazed their own trail and leave their mark on the world of sound system music. After making their names as DJs and producers within Bristol’s early dubstep scene, the duo went on to find themselves at the forefront of the genre’s new wave of artists throughout the 2010s, and an instrumental part of the grime revival of the same period.
In 2012, they started their own record label, Bandulu Records, to both release their music and platform other artists from within their community. With a string of releases and collaborations with staple scene labels like Deep Medi, Keysound Recordings, Butterz, and Terrorhythm, Kahn + Neek became known for a style that blends the raw, darker elements of dubstep and grime music with influences from dancehall, goth and Middle Eastern musical traditions.
In 2016, the pair curated the 90th edition of the esteemed Fabriclive mix series before featuring on BBC Radio 1’s iconic Essential Mix program in the following year.
After touring the world extensively throughout the ‘10s, Kahn + Neek have launched into the next decade full of experience and renewed energy, innovating with a signature style steeped in Bristol’s rich musical heritage and sound system culture. Resident Advisor called their debut album released this past March, Lupus et Ursus, "possibly the most significant milestone in Kahn & Neek’s journey so far, as they continue to fly the flag high for the darker side of sound system music."

Over his dozen-plus years in the beatmaking game, Sheffield-raised Commodo--a.k.a. Dom Tarasek--has forged a path all his own in the realm of sound-system music.
As he describes it himself, Commodo “builds bass-focussed beats with soul and substance that never perpetuate a formula,” and approaches his hard-hitting 140 BPM styles with an eclectic palette of grime, hip-hop, and dubwise flavors.
Throughout Tarasek’s single and EP releases on labels like Deep Medi, Hotline Recordings, Black Acre and Bandulu, you’ll find a creative ethos that values freedom, adventure and sonic power. From early shots like his Uprising 12” in 2011 through to last year’s classic Dyrge EP and Rykers/Daytona single, the Commodo sound is open and thrilling, backed by a lifetime of mastering how to read a floor as a selecta.

Portland's own ZamZam Sounds is repped by two of the most tireless creators and promulgators in the global dub scene, E3 and Tracy (a.k.a. Polygon Press). They’ve selected at multiple festivals and events, including Outlook and Telerama, and produce “Sounds From the Well”, a monthly dub show broadcast on LYL Radio in Lyon, France. Starting in the mid-‘90s with releases on their BSI Records label, E3, Tracy and Josh Derry (a.k.a. Alter Echo) created a groundbreaking aesthetic that would help define the dread and driving modern dub movement of the time. As dubstep crested in 2012, the duo launched ZamZam Sounds, their limited-edition 7” vinyl-only label, releasing exclusive material by top innovators in today’s dub scene housed in mind-blowingly beautiful bespoke jackets screen-printed by Tracy. Artists who’ve released on ZamZam Sounds include Alpha & Omega, Jah Warrior, RSD, Disciples, Dubkasm, Ishan Sound, Compa and many others, including local favorites Blind Prophet and Alter Echo & E3. The ZamZam sublabel Kaliphonic has released complementary vinyl in 10” and 12” format by Von D, Beat Pharmacy, Strategy, Peaman, legendary cumbiamberos Los Gaiteros De San Jacinto and others.
